Why This Role Matters

The Buying Team plays a critical role in our goal to keep Hawaii fed by providing fresh food products to our customers. As a Buyer, you will be working with a team to manage a high-volume category of consumable goods. You will be responsible for the timely placement of purchase orders and delivery of products to meet customer order requirements and maintain stock inventory levels within approved guidelines. You are the bridge between the local and mainland producers we support and the customers we service, ensuring that our supply chain remains efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sourcing and Procurement: Review and process purchase orders and manage relationships with suppliers/vendors. Review reports for OOS (out of stocks) and expedite open orders. Resolve errors on purchase orders.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels to ensure optimal stock levels and avoid shortages.
  • Cost Control: Monitor price increases and analyze market trends to ensure competitive pricing and profitability and make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Supplier Management: Build and maintain relationships with local and mainland vendors, ensuring consistent delivery of goods.
  • Logistics Coordination: Coordinate with operations, distribution, and field teams to ensure timely receipt and distribution to customer sites.

What We’re Looking For

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Supply Management or a related field preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in a similar role, preferably in food distribution or perishables industry.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of consumable goods and supply chain dynamics for food products especially within Hawaii logistics.
    • Proficiency in analyzing market trends, pricing, and inventory management including the use of relevant tools (Microsoft Excel, procurement software)
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills for vendor and internal collaboration.
    • Strong analytical skills and techniques with proficiency in pricing analytics software, Excel, and other relevant tools.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

  • Starting Pay: $60,000/Year. Relevant skills and experience will be highly considered in actual wage.
