Math Tutor

Waialae Elementary is seeking a part time Math Tutor who is looking for a challenging career facilitating learning at Hawaii’s premiere progressive education charter school. 

Waialae’s Beliefs About Learning (waialae.edu) are unique - we seek a candidate who understands how kids learn and has a clear idea of what is truly important for children to learn, understand, and be able to do. 

This position will be working with small groups of students to provide targeted, individualized math instruction. Experience working with learning differences and knowledge of executive functioning skills is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree:
  • A bachelor's degree in mathematics, education, or a related field is preferred.
• Proficiency in Math:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in math concepts beyond the grade level being tutored is crucial.
• Subject Matter Expertise:
  • A strong understanding of math concepts and the ability to explain them clearly is essential. 

Skills and Experience:

• Tutoring Experience: Prior experience as a tutor or teacher, particularly in mathematics, is highly valued. 
• Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed to interact effectively with students and build rapport. 
• Patience and Enthusiasm: The ability to be patient, understanding, and enthusiastic about teaching is important for student success.
• Adaptability: The capacity to tailor teaching methods to suit different learning styles and needs is beneficial. 

19 hours per week. 

Must be able to work flexibly between 7:55 and 2:00 daily. 

Exact schedule to be determined. 

Compensation   $18-24/hr
