JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION NAME: Part Time Mandarin Teacher DEPARTMENT/GRADE LEVEL: Middle School
REPORTS TO: Middle School Dean EFFECTIVE DATE: 08-01-25
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt (Less than 20 hrs/week)
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The teacher collaborates in the effective operation of a Catholic education program by supporting the goals and spirit of Catholic education in general and the school programs in particular; ensuring an effective instructional program; continuing in professional growth; encouraging student educational growth.

A teacher is expected to have competencies in the following major areas:

A. Provide effective Mandarin instruction across all proficiency levels, emphasizing speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
B. Develop and adapt lesson plans and materials to support diverse learners.
C. Demonstrate thorough planning and preparation for instruction.
D. Deliver lessons clearly and engagingly.
E. Assess student progress, provide feedback, and communicate with parents; adjust instruction to meet individual needs.
F. Inspire and motivate students to engage in learning.
G. Maintain a positive, focused, and supportive learning environment.
H. Integrate appropriate technology into instruction.
I. Demonstrates an understanding in delivering the curriculum using the Rigor, Relevance and Relationship Framework.
III. INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
A. Works cooperatively with administration

D. Reports any knowledge or suspicion of child abuse as required by law
E. Accepts, willingly, extra assignments and supervisions (e.g. lunch, playground, and/or dismissal)
F. Attends all faculty meetings, in-services, and other meetings and events as specified by the principal unless excused by the principal prior to the meeting or event
G. Is responsible for the care and use of instructional materials, equipment, and school facilities
H. Reviews fire and lockdown drills and emergency procedures and practices with students regularly
I. Provides necessary documentation for personnel file
J. Follows directives regarding collection of monies

A. Keeps abreast of developments in curriculum and methodology
B. Interacts with colleagues to further professional growth

D. Completes necessary work toward obtaining and/or maintaining a valid teaching license
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
B.Ed or equivalent.
Experience in teaching Mandarin to middle school level students or equivalent
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Teachers must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods. May need to climb stairs and lift, carry, push and/or pull items up to 50 pounds. Must be able to respond effectively to, and lead the class in emergency situations.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is usually performed in a classroom setting within the time frame established by the Division Head. Employee is occasionally required to attend evening meetings and may oversee field trips and other special events.
SUPERVISION
Exercises working supervision over students, Educational Assistants and volunteers, as necessary.
