Field Technician

Aloha Pu‘u Kukui is the non-profit whose mission to take care of the Pu‘u Kukui watershed, protecting and restoring this precious native Hawaiian forest that captures the water for our aquifer. In this position, you will be working on reforestation of an 800-acre section of the watershed in Honolua Valley. 

Primary tasks:
• Work on conservation and forest restoration in Honolua Valley 
• Remove invasive plants, control feral animals, and restore native forest 
• Guide volunteers working on forest restoration 
• Manage educational groups visiting Honolua

Requirements:
• Valid driver’s license 
• Able to walk 6 miles with a 40-pound pack 
• Perform physical work outdoors in rugged terrain and adverse weather  

Desired Experience:
• 1 year of conservation experience 
• Knowledge of native Hawaiian plant species 
• Experience with invasive plant identification and control methods 
• Working knowledge of the Hawaiian language 
• Experience using tools such as machetes, weed eaters, and chainsaws 
• Driving on rough 4WD roads 
• Knowledge of native Hawaiian conservation and land management practices 
• Possession of a Hawaii hunting license and hunter safety course certification 
• Experience with taro cultivation and lo’i construction 
• Interest in weaving, lashing, and hale construction techniques

Compensation:
$40,000.00 to $50,000.00 / Year
