DEPARTMENT: Golf Shop JOB TITLE: Assistant Golf Professional
REPORTS TO: Head Pro Golf
JOB TYPE: Hourly/Non-Exempt
BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Head Golf Professional, the Assistant Golf Professional is responsible to provide service to the members and guests while performing all duties related to the golf shop operation including managing starting times, tee time coordination, answering telephone calls, implementing club rules and policies, GHIN handicap recording, and any other duties needed by the Head Golf Professional.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible to perform all Golf Shop duties and tasks.
- Maintain a clean and neat work environment, including visual merchandise displays, check-in counter and all other common areas.
- Develop strategies to ensure customer satisfaction and maximize business performances and profitability.
- Know the conditions of play for the day.
- Control and manage play; ensure proper check-in procedures according to club policy.
- Manage tee line up and adjust if groups are not ready to tee off to assure the orderly flow of play in accordance with the policies and procedures of the club.
- Marshal golf play.
- Balance and close daily golf shop transactions.
- Work with Club Essentials to maintain POS system and tee sheets.
- Build and maintain tee sheets used for daily golf, tournaments, and other golf events.
- Assistant in the management of the GHIN handicap program.
- Be informed on and promote all club activities and services.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cover hours for other golf shop employees that may be sick or on vacation.
- Assist with club repairs being able to change grips and re-shaft clubs.
- Teach golf lessons under the guidance of the head golf professional when and where needed.
- Maintain an active classification in the PGA of America.
- Manage the total operations of the practice facility including Demo Days and other golf promotional events.
- Work closely with accounting department ensuring proper accounting methods are followed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work will be done indoors and outdoors.
- Working in close quarters with other employees at times.
- Additional workdays and time will be required on occasion and for holidays and major tournaments.
- Must be available for work 6:00 am during weekends and Holidays.
- Standing for long hours at times is required.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
- Skills/Requirements- Must be computer literate with knowledge in Word, Excel. Must have command of the English language. Must be knowledgeable with the game of golf. Must communicate with all age levels of people.
- Education-Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have one year of experience in golf shop operations.
MENTAL DEMANDS: This job requires long hours of work, and the worker must be demonstrative and pleasant always.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must be able to stand and talk for long periods of time. The employee must always have a pleasant attitude with emotions under control.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, employee is on their feet for 6 to 8 hours a day. At times the employee will be asked to assist with bag drop and park golf carts. Range duties may be required from time to time.
