Are you committed to uplifting Native Hawaiian families and creating safer communities? The Domestic Violence Action Center (DVAC) is looking for a compassionate and culturally grounded Family Advocate to support Native Hawaiian survivors of intimate partner violence and their ohana.
About the Role
As a Family Advocate, you’ll provide long-term, trauma-informed support to survivors, offering safety planning, advocacy, and resource coordination rooted in cultural understanding. This role focuses on serving Native Hawaiian families with respect for cultural traditions, values, and healing practices across Oʻahu.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field
- Experience working with families affected by trauma and domestic violence
- Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics and community resources
- Understanding and alignment with Native Hawaiian values and cultural practices
- Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills
- Flexible with work schedule
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments of survivors referred to DVAC Ho’oikaika ‘Ohana (Ho’o) program and assist clients in development of effective Service Plans
- Provide long-term advocacy and support for survivors
- Offer crisis counseling, safety planning, and attend court/community appointments with clients
- Advocate for clients with agencies, while empowering them to advocate for themselves
- Answer and respond to DVAC’s Helpline calls and maintain call records
- Co-facilitate culturally grounded group sessions when needed and ensure weekly lessons are delivered in a culturally sensitive manner according to the specialized curriculum
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all program policies
- Attend at least 4 relevant trainings per year
- Keep accurate case notes and documentation
- Communicate and coordinate with other DVAC programs
- Track and report monthly service statistics
- Take on other tasks to support the program and agency goals
- Report directly to the ‘Ohana Program Manager
