Job Title: Business Manager – School-Parish
Reports To: Pastor/Parish Administrator
Location: St. Anthony Church and School, Wailuku, HI
FLSA Status: Exempt / Full-Time
Position Summary
The Business Manager serves as a key advisor to the Pastor and leadership team, overseeing the stewardship of parish and school financial resources, human resources, facilities, and administrative operations. This position ensures alignment with the mission and values of the Catholic Church, supporting both the parish community and its Catholic school with sound business practices and a spirit of Christian service.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
• Prepare, manage, and monitor annual budgets for the parish and school in collaboration with the Pastor, Principal, Finance Council, and School Advisory Board.
• Oversee accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
• Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with diocesan policies and GAAP standards.
• Manage parish and school banking, cash flow, and investment accounts.
• Lead stewardship and offertory programs; support fundraising and grant initiatives.
Human Resources
• Manage HR functions for both parish and school employees including recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, performance reviews, and compliance with diocesan employment policies.
• Serve as liaison with the diocesan HR office.
• Promote a positive, mission-driven workplace culture.
Facilities and Operations
• Oversee maintenance, safety, and improvement of all parish and school buildings and grounds.
• Coordinate vendor contracts, maintenance schedules, and capital improvement projects.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and insurance regulations.
Administrative Leadership
• Collaborate with the Pastor and Principal in strategic planning and implementation.
• Support parish committees (Finance Council, Pastoral Council, etc.) with accurate data and reporting.
• Supervise administrative and support staff; manage parish and school office functions.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field required; MBA or CPA preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in financial or operations management; nonprofit or church experience highly desirable.
• Knowledge of Catholic parish and school operations, and commitment to Church teachings and mission.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage), Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
Working Conditions
• This position requires regular on-site presence during parish and school hours, with occasional evenings/weekends for meetings or events.
• Must pass background check and complete diocesan safe environment training.
