HI H.O.P.E.S. Advisor (Hilo, On-call)

POSITION SUMMARY

The HI H.O.P.E.S. Advisor coordinates work for the HI HOPES youth leadership board. The advisor maintains relationship with the Community Partnership Hui (CP Hui) and other community partners related to HI H.O.P.E.S. Initiative. The advisor regularly engages with the youth, young adults and community partners.

 

The HI H.O.P.E.S. Advisor must demonstrate an active commitment to EPIC ‘Ohana's mission and vision, and to strive to incorporate EPIC ‘Ohana’s values1 in all aspects of daily work.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Coordinate work of the HI H.O.P.E.S. youth leadership board in designated location (East Hawaiʻi, West Hawaiʻi, Kauaʻi, or Maui).
  • Support youth engagement, young-adult partnerships, and positive youth development in the HI H.O.P.E.S.’s work with the Community Partnership (CP) Hui and in the community to improve outcomes and opportunities for transitioning foster youth.
  • Support the engagement and training of young adults so that they participate fully in all Initiative strategies.
  • Coordinate the HI H.O.P.E.S. Match program: maintain the relationship with the local banking partner, coordinate financial literacy training, work with the youth to open bank accounts, approve asset purchases, and organize asset specific training as needed.
  • Work and/or advise with Statewide Initiative Managers on general youth engagement efforts and other program related work.
  • Coordinate and hold monthly HI H.O.P.E.S. board meetings.
  • Assist with coordination of quarterly CP Hui meetings and prepare HI H.O.P.E.S. board for these meetings.
  • Attend annual HI H.O.P.E.S. Summit in January/February and ʻOhana is Forever conference in July with HI H.O.P.E.S. Board Members. Prepare HI H.O.P.E.S. Board to participate in these annual events.
  • Support HI H.O.P.E.S. board members in various community activities that utilize their grantmaking funds, and other Child Welfare Services (CWS) meetings or stakeholder meetings and community events, as planned for and as appropriate (such as Imua Kākou hearings / Transition Ceremonies, Teen Days, etc.).
  • Establish and maintain relationships with CWS, Family Court, and community organizations to meet HI H.O.P.E.S. Initiative needs.
  • Responsible for providing outreach services, as needed.
  • General office work as needed (i.e., filing, phone calls, database work, and typing).
OTHER DUTIES/FUNCTIONS
  • Perform other related duties, as required and assigned.
  • Regular attendance, required.
  • Responsible for awareness and adherence to all company and safety policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate trainings, all staff meetings, and individual supervision, as scheduled.
  • Recommend improvements and/or enhancements of job processes and work environment to ensure high quality levels of service deliverables.
  • Addresses appropriate needs with supervisor and/or manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning; and
  • A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years related experience and/or training; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must maintain an ethical, responsible and professional attitude and demeanor under all circumstances in person, by phone, e-mail and correspondence, in order to effectively and efficiently engage and maintain working relationships with families, professionals and other participants who are undergoing complex and crisis situations.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Committed to quality and performance improvement.
  • Valid driver’s license, no-fault automobile insurance, acceptable motor vehicle abstract2, and access to an insured, reliable vehicle is needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Familiarity with the Foster Care System (DHS-CWS) strongly preferred.
  • Prior youth advocacy experience desirable.
  • Individual with experience working with families whose children have been harmed or threatened with harm and in facilitation and/or mediation, preferred.
  • Individual with culturally relevant training and/or experience specific to the community served, preferred.
