GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The teacher collaborates in the effective operation of a Catholic education program by supporting the goals and spirit of Catholic education in general and the school programs in particular; ensuring an effective instructional program; continuing in professional growth; encouraging student educational growth.

A teacher is expected to have competencies in the following major areas:

- INSTRUCTIONAL PROCESS
- Plan, develop, and deliver high-quality Religion curriculum aligned with the USCCB Curriculum Framework and faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Prepare daily lessons, instructional materials, and assessments using existing curricular frameworks and approved texts.
- Employ effective instructional strategies, including differentiation and customization, to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including those with learning differences.
- Foster students’ spiritual, moral, and intellectual growth through engaging, reflective, and developmentally appropriate instruction.
- Prepare students for participation in all school-wide spiritual activities, including liturgies, prayer services, retreats, and assemblies, ensuring understanding of expectations, protocols, and appropriate conduct.
- Stay current with educational best practices and integrate them appropriately into classroom instruction.

- Support and actively promote the mission, philosophy, and Catholic identity of Maryknoll School.
- Serve as a leader in advancing the school’s Strategic Plan, particularly goals related to developing and sustaining a healthy Catholic school culture.
- Participate in and support faith formation programs, communal worship, retreats, service-learning initiatives, and other pastoral activities.
- Organize and support student leadership efforts related to school liturgies, service, and spiritual life.
- Serve as a Faculty Mentor within the school’s Advisory Program, contributing to the holistic development of students.
- Fulfill assigned on-campus supervision duties during the school day.
- Collaborate positively with colleagues, administrators, and staff in a professional learning community.
- Comply with all school policies, procedures, and professional expectations.
- Participate, as appropriate, in the extracurricular life of the school.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of teaching experience in a public, charter, parochial, or independent school setting preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Catholic theology and religious education appropriate for the high school level.
- Commitment to student formation, collaboration, and ongoing professional growth.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Teachers must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods. May need to climb stairs and lift, carry, push and/or pull items up to 25 pounds. Must be able to respond effectively to, and lead the class in emergency situations.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is usually performed in a classroom setting within the time frame established by the High School Dean. Employee is occasionally required to attend evening meetings and may oversee special events.
SUPERVISION
Exercises working supervision over students, Educational Assistants and volunteers, as necessary.
