POSITION NAME:  High School Science Teacher

CLASSIFICATION:  Exempt

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  The teacher collaborates in the effective operation of a Catholic education program by supporting the goals and spirit of Catholic education in general and the school programs in particular; ensuring an effective instructional program; continuing in professional growth; encouraging student educational growth.

  3. Presents scientific concepts clearly and effectively using a variety of instructional strategies that promote inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  4. Designs and implements formative and summative assessments that effectively evaluate student learning, conceptual understanding, and skill development.
  5. Adjusts curriculum and instructional strategies to meet individual student needs, including differentiation and accommodations for diverse learners.
  6. Demonstrates the ability to motivate students and foster curiosity through hands-on, experiential, and project-based learning experiences.
  7. Maintains a classroom environment that is safe, organized, and conducive to learning, including proper laboratory and safety practices.
  8. Integrates appropriate educational technology and scientific tools to enhance instruction and student engagement.
  9. Demonstrates understanding and application of the Rigor, Relevance, and Relationship Framework in science instruction.
  10. Aligns instruction, where applicable, with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and college-preparatory expectations.

  1. Design and deliver engaging, student-centered science instruction aligned with established curricular frameworks and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
  2. Develop and implement assessments that allow students to demonstrate mastery over time and support ongoing academic growth.
  3. Prepare instructional materials, lesson plans, and learning activities that incorporate hands-on and project-based learning experiences.
  4. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with varying academic abilities and learning differences.
  5. Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement, curiosity, and a love of science.
  6. Provide academic support to students through tutoring and extra help during non-instructional time as needed.
  7. Monitor and evaluate student progress, maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with students, families, and school staff.
  8. Serve as a mentor/advisor to students, supporting their academic, social, and personal development through the Advisory Program.
  9. Perform assigned supervisory duties to ensure student safety and appropriate conduct on campus during the school day.
  10. Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, instructional strategies, and interdisciplinary initiatives.
  11. Participate in professional development and continuous learning to enhance instructional effectiveness and content knowledge.
  12. Contribute to the broader school community, including participation in extracurricular activities and school events.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; Master’s degree preferred, with 3–5 years of teaching experience in a school setting.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching high school science courses such as Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics.
  • Strong content knowledge in science and the ability to translate complex concepts into accessible, engaging instruction.
  • Familiarity with effective instructional methodologies for high school science learners, including inquiry-based and project-based learning.
  • Knowledge of differentiation strategies to support diverse learners and promote equitable access to rigorous science instruction.
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and contribution to the broader school community.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists.  Teachers must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods.  May need to climb stairs and lift, carry, push and/or pull items up to 25 pounds.  Must be able to respond effectively to, and lead the class in  emergency situations.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is usually performed in a classroom setting within the time frame established by the High School Dean. Employee is occasionally required to attend evening meetings and may oversee special events. 

 

SUPERVISION

Exercises working supervision over students, Educational Assistants and volunteers, as necessary.

$46,000.00 to $90,000.00 / Year
