Responsibilities
Donor care and stewardship: Lead a comprehensive donor care program that includes timely acknowledgments and receipts, personalized thank‑you letters and calls, regular impact reports, and intentional touchpoints to deepen long‑term relationships with individual, corporate, parish, and foundation supporters. Develop and monitor donor retention and upgrade strategies to grow a robust, sustainable donor base.
Design development strategy for Hale Kau Kau: Work with the Advisory Board and Program Director to identify funds needed, preferred funding targets, and approaches.
Form and manage development team: Work with the Advisory Board and Program Director to form a development team.
Fundraising: Work with current Fundraising Chair and conduct research, prospecting, and cultivation across multiple donor sources. Manage fundraising campaigns and oversee ongoing annual and special event fundraising efforts.
Grant research and writing: Proactively research local, state, federal, corporate, and foundation grant opportunities aligned with Hale Kau Kau’s mission; develop and maintain an annual grants calendar; and prepare, submit, and track compelling grant proposals, reports, and compliance requirements in collaboration with the Program Director and Advisory Board.
Billing and reimbursement: Coordinate and oversee accurate, timely billing of eligible meals to insurance companies and other payers; maintain required documentation; and work with the bookkeeper/accounting to reconcile payments and resolve discrepancies.
Communicate and train: Train and mentor staff and volunteers in fundraising best practices and donor stewardship, and communicate fundraising goals, progress, and impact throughout Hale Kau Kau and the parish community.
Qualifications
Development/Fundraising: Proven success in development for a nonprofit, including running fundraising campaigns, growing a diversified donor base, and implementing effective donor care and stewardship practices that retain and upgrade supporters.
Grant writing and management: Demonstrated experience researching funding opportunities, writing successful grant proposals, and managing grant reporting and compliance with government, corporate, and foundation funders.
Billing and compliance: Experience preferred working with billing or reimbursement processes for human services or health‑related programs, including maintaining accurate records, meeting payer requirements, and collaborating with accounting/finance on reconciliation and reporting.
Entrepreneurial Spirit: Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current donor relationships and to forge new ones through creative engagement strategies.
Communications: Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising and stewardship; able to convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials and present them credibly to external audiences.
Collaboration and Relationship Building: Effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives; skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with peers, parish leadership, volunteers, donors, and community partners.
