Campus Minister Administrator 

 

 

Responsible to:  Pastor  

 

The campus minister ensures the effective operation of a Catholic education program by providing leadership in curriculum and retreat development, religion programming, financial and personnel management, student/teacher/program evaluations, church relations and planning, and public service development. 

 

 

Campus Minister as Spiritual Leader  

Job Description: 

The campus minister maintains the school as a mission of the parish following the Maryknoll charism: 

  • Works with the Pastor and staff to ensure that this mission and charism is understood and articulated 

  • Meets with parish ministry team as needed or requested 

  • Identifies and works with spiritual needs of staff, departments, and other at-large constituents 

  • Gives spiritual state of the school report annually to the school leadership and school board 

  • Plans and provides in-service opportunities for Maryknoll faculty and staff 

  • Coordinate and plan with liturgical ministers all liturgies and prayer services to include monthly Mass and special celebrations

  • Knows and applies Church documents and other religious resources that relate to schools 

  • Provides opportunities which foster the spiritual growth of faculty, students, and other members of the school community 

  • Leads the school community in prayer 

  • Links the school and the diocesan school community 

  • Integrates gospel values and Christian social principles into the curriculum and the life of the school 

  • Articulates the Catholic educational vision and directs its accomplishments

Campus Minister as Instructional Leader  

Job Description: 

  • Provide leadership in religious instruction and religion curriculum development 

  • Coordinate faculty and group meetings to study religion curriculum areas 

  • Work with the Pastor and principals to plan and preparea school religion instructional program to achieve well-defined goals which meet instructional needs 

  • Encourage religion instruction, which meets the various needs and abilities of the students 

  • Provide leadership for faith-formation professional growth: 

  • Improve quality of religion instruction through continuous supervision 

  • Train and develop leadership capacity of student and staff ministersand retreat leaders 

  • Facilitate the professional growth of staff by initiating, providing, and participating in weekly religion meetings and curriculum in-service days 

  • Work with religion staff on both campuses to achieve consistently high standards  

  • Provide leadership for school accreditation and strategic planning: 

  • Develop processes that develop the school’s Campus Ministry Strategic Plan 

  • Assess student religion and faith formation programs and their impact on learning 

  • Develop a Campus Ministry improvement program based on identified needs 

  • Monitor the accomplishments of the Campus Ministry Strategic Plan 

  • Lead Religion and Campus Minister Committees during accreditation 

  • Teach Religion classes to help cover religion department teaching lines

  • Is committed to the philosophy of Catholic education that underlies Catholic schools; 

  • Promotes staff morale and a sense of Christian community among teachers; 

  • Shapes, shares, and implements a school philosophy which reflects the unique Catholic character of the school; 

  • Provides leadership in curriculum development in general, including the integration of Christian values; 

  • Initiates and conducts appropriate staff development activities; 

  • Models life-long learning by possessing an advanced degree and updates his/her knowledge; 

  • Shows a general variety of educational pedagogical skills; 

  • Initiates and conducts evaluations of students, staff, and innovative programs; 

  • Provides effective instructional leadership and supervision of staff and provides programs that reflect the unique Catholic nature of the school. 

 

Campus Minister as Leader: 

Job Description: 

  • Provides leadership for long range (strategic) planning and development activities; 

  • Manage student activities: 

  • Work with staff and students to develop and encourage broad participation in total Campus Ministry Programs 

  • Sustain our commitment to and coordinate (and accompany if necessary) students to mission in Majuro. 

  • Keep students informed concerning the school's aims and objectives, policies and procedures, rules and regulations, events and activities 

  •  Plan and provide crisis intervention when appropriate 

  • Seek to acquaint individuals with appropriate agencies for resolution of problems 

  • Plan for effective and relevant use of religion and campus ministry resources  

  • Participate in planning the school budget in dialogue with principal and president 

  • Oversee and share ACRE testing and establish school culture goals based on findings

The campus minister: 

  • Demonstrates good process in decision making 

  • Is accountable and has high expectations of those with whom s/he works 

  • Works collaboratively with a faculty, staff, parents, and other groups 

  • Plans and supervises the religion and campus ministry financial resources 

  • Is sensitive to the demands of justice in making decisions, especially as they relate to the Church's social teachings 

  • Effectively uses technology is all aspects of the job 

  • Knows current school law as it applies to the Catholic school 

  • Develops emergency procedures 

  • Provides leadership for the school's public and community relations activities 

  • Provides an orderly event school environment that promotes student self-discipline consistent with Gospel values and Christian principles

Campus minister as Communicator 

Job Description 

  • Provide leadership in school and community relations: 

  • Interprets diocesan and parish religion and faith-formation policy to the staff, parish, and community 

  • Keep the parish and community informed about the school's programs and activities 

  • Be responsible to translate the religion and Campus Ministry philosophy of the school to the public 

 

Roles/Characteristics 

The campus minister: 

  • Articulates Catholic Christian values 

  • Articulates educational values 

  • Knows and can apply appropriate group dynamics, conflict management, problem solving, and other organizational development skills 

  • Knows how to delegate responsibilities appropriately and does so 

  • Knows how to relate the service dimension of the school to the civic community 

  • Is capable of ensuring the publication of appropriate handbooks 

  • Provides weekly updates for constituents 

  • Provides opportunities for faculty and staff to interact with religious education staff
