The Academy String Program trains and develops over 150 students, ages 7–18, in orchestral string instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass), through four school-year ensembles and two summer session programs.
This is a part-time, hourly position estimated at 10–15 hours per week. Saturday mornings are required; additional weekday hours may be scheduled for administrative tasks, meetings, and communications. Attendance at two Sunday Academy Concerts is expected.During the school year, Academy programs meet weekly on Saturdays from September through April. Summer session may include approximately 20 hours spread over June and July.
The Coordinator provides on-site support for the Academy’s conducting staff; serves as a liaison between the Boys & Girls Club of Hawai‘i and HYS; and trains and supervises parent volunteers. This position requires excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to youth development and safety.
Due to the nature of the role, the Coordinator must reside on the island of Oʻahu.
