POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mower/Tractor Operator is primarily responsible for the transportation, operation, and maintenance of an assortment of mowers for grass cutting and grounds maintenance at public and government locations on Oahu. Sites include lawns, parks, green spaces, and open fields. The Mower/Tractor Operator supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization, and upholds and enforces the guidelines and policies of the organization and demonstrates Lanakila Pacific’s values of teamwork, excellence, achievement, and motivation in all personal interactions and exemplifies Lanakila’s STAR service standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Specific Duties
- Transports, operates, and maintains large riding mowers and mower/tractor and loads and unloads equipment off (hauling) trailers.
- Learns the routes to and general layout of assigned sites, follows an assigned mowing schedule, and coordinates field access, if necessary.
- Performs other tasks to maintain assigned area including, but not limited to, cleaning sidewalks with power blowers and brooms; monitoring grounds for debris and properly disposing of collected materials; and trimming shrubbery and grass around trees, posts, poles, and fences.
- Assists grounds workers and gives clear instructions or directions to others using various techniques.
- Maintains and safeguards areas, supplies, tools, and equipment; is responsible for the daily control of supplies, tools and equipment assigned to the employee and sets up proper safeguards and follow-up procedures including:
- o Inspects and services all equipment used, and keeps all tools and equipment secured in their proper places after each workday.
- o Ensures proper security, care, and service of the assigned vehicle and/or equipment.
- o Promptly reports accidents or incidents verbally and prepares necessary reports and submits them to the supervisor within 24 hours of any accident/incident.
- o Safeguards keys for vehicles and ensures vehicles are properly parked and secured.
- o Performs daily vehicle inspection through the Vehicle Inspection Report prior to use. Daily mileage, expense records and reports required for the assigned vehicle shall be maintained on the Vehicle Mileage Report. Submits records and reports to the supervisor on the required due dates.
- o Assists in planning and implementing general cleaning at regular intervals.
- o Maintains first aid kits in the work areas and assigned vehicle.
- Ensures OSHA, Federal, State and company safety guidelines are met and enforced.
- Plans and organizes tasks and possesses sufficient flexibility to respond to changing situations.
- Writes routine reports and correspondence.
- Responds to requests or inquires and communicates with appropriate personnel.

OTHER DUTIES
- Follows all safety procedure and practices, and that safeguards and proper safety gear, such as gloves, are used when appropriate.
- Follows established work rules, standards of conduct, policies, procedures and practices.
- Performs other related business duties as assigned.
- Completes training as mandated by organizational policy.
WORKING HOURS/CONDITIONS:
- Scheduled for work 5 days a week. Monday – Friday, 06:30 am. – 03:00 pm. May be required to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends and holidays to meet operational needs and contract requirements.
- Outdoors, travel to other program sites, meeting sites, etc. as assigned,
- Works near moving mechanical parts, in high places, and in outside weather conditions; frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Moves on and off the mower frequently to pick up debris or move objects.
EQUIPMENT USE:
- Utility vans, pick-up trucks, tractors, trailers, and self-propelled riding mowers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Experience: One year of work in grounds maintenance. One year of work experience operating equipment similar in size and capability to those listed above preferred.
- Clearance/Certification: 1) TB clearance, 2) Criminal background check, 3) Pre-employment drug testing, 4) Child Protective Service/Adult Protective Service check, 5) Military Base access.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract.
Preferred
- Education: High school diploma or Certificate of Completion or equivalent
- Clearance/Certification: Commercial Driving License (CDL)
- CPR/First Aid (Obtain on the job).
