JOB DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION NAME: Educational Assistant DEPARTMENT/GRADE LEVEL: Elementary Division

REPORTS TO: Elementary Division Head EFFECTIVE DATE: 08-01-22

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The educational assistant collaborates in the effective operation of a Catholic education program by supporting the goals and spirit of Catholic education in general and the school programs in particular; ensuring an effective instructional program; continuing in professional growth; encouraging student educational growth.

An educational assistant is expected to have competencies in the following major areas:

A. Supports and implements the mission/philosophy of Catholic education and the school

II. INSTRUCTIONAL PROCESS

A. Demonstrates evidence of prior planning and preparation

B. Presents classes clearly and effectively

C. Evaluates student progress effectively

D. Adjusts curriculum and instruction to provide for individual differences

E. Demonstrates ability to motivate students

F. Maintains an atmosphere conducive to learning in both the physical environment and the learning atmosphere

G. Knows and uses technology appropriately in and during instruction

H. Demonstrates an understanding in delivering the curriculum using the Rigor, Relevance and Relationship Framework.

 

III. INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

A. Works cooperatively with administration

B. Works positively with colleagues, support staff, and parish staff

C. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations with students

D. Maintains positive interpersonal relations with parents

 

IV. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Support the lead teacher during lessons with individual students or small groups of students

B. Attend specialist classes and help as needed, including behavior monitoring

C. Support the lead teacher in preparing materials for upcoming lessons

D. Support the lead teacher in daily cleaning and straightening up the classroom environment

E. Provide various supervision duties as requested by administration (driveway, recess supervision, etc.)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

B.Ed or equivalent experience with early childhood education preferred.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Educational Assistants must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods. May need to climb stairs and lift, carry, push and/or pull items up to 50 pounds. Must be able to respond effectively to and lead the class in emergency situations.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is usually performed in a classroom setting within the time frame established by the division head. Employee is occasionally required to attend evening meetings and may oversee field trips and other special events.

 

SUPERVISION

Exercises working supervision over students and volunteers, as necessary.
