Restoration AmeriCorps Member

The Holomua ʻĀina Alakaʻi Program (HAA) is designed for entry-level and emerging professionals who want to deepen their connection with ʻāina and with organizations who strive to perpetuate and exemplify environmental stewardship and Hawaiian cultural education. This program aims to increase participants' abilities and knowledge in order to contribute skilled employable professionals to the workforce in our communities. Members must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding duties. Other requirements might differ depending on our partner host site placements located on the North Shore of Oʻahu.

The HAA Program will be 11 months, including a two month orientation/training series with Mālama Loko Ea Foundation. The Restoration AmeriCorps Members will serve alongside working professionals and practitioners as they gain experience in the field with invasive species removal, native plant restoration, food sustainability, community outreach, and environmental and cultural education. • Assisting MLEF with daily fishpond operations and maintenance, helping in the native plant nursery ensuring the propagation, outplanting, and monitoring of native species, aiming to remove invasive plant and animal species in and around the fishpond, increasing successful identification of native and invasive plants and animals, preparing new spaces for both food and plant gardens, and operate closely with MLEF staff to recruit and take care of our native fish.
  • Primarily helping with volunteer service groups, other HAA members, and MLEF staff to continue to move restoration of Loko ea & ʻUkoʻa forward, but also assist the education and community programs when needed. The Restoration Technician Member should be able to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and be willing to work with keiki (children) of all ages.
