Job Title: Elementary School Counselor


Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Elementary School Counselor to join our dynamic educational team. The primary responsibility of the Elementary School Counselor is to provide comprehensive counseling services to students in grades K-5. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of child development, and the ability to foster a supportive and inclusive school environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address a variety of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students.
  2. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to identify and address student concerns, including but not limited to academic struggles, social skills development, and emotional regulation.
  3. Develop and implement personalized intervention plans to support students' academic and personal growth.
  4. Coordinate and administer standardized tests, interpret results, and provide guidance to students, parents, and staff based on assessment data.
  5. Facilitate classroom guidance lessons on topics such as bullying prevention, conflict resolution, and study skills.
  6. Provide college and career counseling to elementary students, introducing them to various educational and vocational opportunities.
  7. Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including counseling notes, assessment data, and intervention plans.
  8. Stay current on best practices in counseling and education, participating in professional development activities as needed.
  9. Serve as a resource to staff and parents regarding student mental health and well-being, offering guidance and support as needed.
  10. Contribute to a positive school climate by promoting kindness, empathy, and respect among students and staff.

Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in School Counseling or related field from an accredited institution.
  2. State licensure or certification as a school counselor (if applicable).
  3. Experience working with elementary school-aged children in an educational or counseling setting.
  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with students, parents, and colleagues.
  5. Knowledge of child development theories and counseling techniques, with an understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to support student success.
  7. Proficiency in using technology for counseling-related tasks, such as maintaining electronic records and conducting virtual counseling sessions.
  8. Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality in all counseling interactions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with crisis intervention and/or trauma-informed counseling approaches.
  2. Familiarity with Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) frameworks.
  3. Training or certification in college and career counseling.
  4. Bilingual proficiency in languages commonly spoken by students and families in the school community.

Working Conditions: This position is based in an elementary school setting, with regular hours during the school day. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for parent meetings, school events, or professional development activities.
