Established in 1954 as a tax exempt charitable organization under 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Arc of Hilo was the first and for a long time the only organization on Hawai'i Island devoted to embracing and assisting people with developmental disabilities lead productive, community oriented lives.

Today, The Arc of Hilo is the largest private employer of people with disabilities in Hawai'i County.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for individual with disabilities. Our Board of Directors is composed of concerned community based volunteers.

The Arc of Hilo remains on the cutting edge by developing innovative, community-focused opportunities, offering adult day health care, personal assistance, support to live independently, housing, and job training.
